It was such a joy to photograph Natalie & Phil's wedding at the St. Francis Chapel in Fallen Leaf Lake. With only 25 guests in attendance, it allowed me extra time to cover and invest in the unique aspects of their wedding. Plus, they had absolutely stellar taste and put a lot of heart into every detail. The reception was held in the side yard of the groom's parents' home overlooking Lake Tahoe. It was well worth the 20+ mosquito bites in order to create the playful portraits in the woods beside the chapel. Natalie had beautiful posture too and the two seemed to snugly fit together like two puzzle pieces. We shared a lot of laughs--Thank you!

Young and In Love! These two were sooooo adorable and vivacious. The wedding was set on the beach at Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe. Everything about their day was so lively from the sparklers to their color palette. I loved that Amanda broke tradition by wearing a ball gown on the beach and paired it with flip-flops. She was more than eager to kick of her shoes and walk beside the waves. They were a very relaxed couple and Rick enjoyed spinning Amanda which made for some fun impromptu photos on the beach. Cute, cute, cute. Thanks!

A Passionate Pair

Johnelle & Nick:

These two were so naturally passionate and enraptured by one another that they were a complete joy to photograph. I have never had a couple move together so easily: I barely had to direct them during the portrait session.

Furthermore, their comfort level with me was very high perhaps because I had met them prior to the wedding for a consultation during the off-season up at Lake Tahoe. Or perhaps it is because both of them are so completely photogenic!

Their wedding was at the Cal Neva Resort in Crystal Bay, Lake Tahoe which borders California & Nevada. On a rather hot day, I was able to find some pockets of shade and a tunnel to escape the harsh lighting during the portraits. And, I took advantage of the romantic hanging lights inside the resort for some very sweet dance photos.

A raccoon appeared to observe our portrait session which kept me on my feet.

It was a very lively day.

A Matter of Vintage

Angelique & Andrew

I recently spent 1.5 hours with this Porter Ranch, California couple who married at Monte Bleu Resort in Lake Tahoe. It was an intimate vintage inspired wedding in the resorts' chapel. To my delight, their hotel room, which was a courtesy upgrade for a couple very much in love, matched their vintage clothing. My favorite shot was created by photographing into a mirrored armoire with a beveled edge. Angelique had her back to the mirror looking into the eyes of her flower girl. The triplicate result is a bit spooky but definitely very avant-garde with the middle reflection of the girl perfectly framed by Angelique's birdcage veil. This is definitely the kind of photograph that makes me happy to me be my own editor! Thankfully, the couple was very open to my ideas and we were able to play during the limited shooting time.

Romance Reigns: Wedding Portraits

Mike & Ashley:

I recently had the pleasure of providing this adorable couple with some unique wedding portraits. Four years ago they married in Reno, Nevada but their hired photographer never showed up to the wedding and split with their money. Mike secretly hired me and shipped their wedding attire to Ashley's aunt's home in Reno, where they originally married, in order to surprise Ashley with the portrait session.

While we had the advantage of not worrying about keeping them from their guests, we were battling freezing cold temperatures but their great stamina and humor enabled them to endure. The house and the old trees surrounding the yard served as a beautiful backdrop.

A mutual friend of ours, Leilani, came by the shoot to help us work more efficiently in a small window of time. Toward the end of the outside portion of the shoot, I couldn't even use my fingers to change the f-stop which makes Ashely's warm smiles all the more impressive being she was in a strapless gown and I was in five layers of wool.

Their love for each other still reads as newlyweds.

It was great fun!

Wedding Photojournalist covers wedding in Sweden

I recently had the pleasure of covering a wedding in Southern Sweden. I fell in love with the quality of the light. The daylight was gently diffused and the evening light was rosy red as the country nears their Midsummer celebration. Excellent time of year to be there with golden fields and warm temperatures. And the couple was equally warm and open to anything I asked. The bride was also an artist and eager to marry some of her ideas, with my own. The result was a lot of tender, compelling images. Thank Hans and Cecelia for trusting me with your special day: I truly enjoyed!

Silly to Sulky

Recently, I photographed this little girl and scored because in the two-hour session I was able
to capture a gamut of emotions, from silly to sulky. Fortunately, her parents allowed the session to continue when her mood soured, AND they loved the photos of her pouting. Naturally, as a photographer with a background in photojournalism I embrace the organic, candid moments, but I am accustom to clients only wanting perfectly happy photos. Which is fine, but it sure is refreshing to cross paths with clients who share my taste. Viva photojournalism!

swooning over swoon

I did some interior shots for Swoon, a local bridal salon, with stylish, simple gowns typically only found in bigger cities. I witnessed Michelle, the owner, with clients on several occasions and she is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Awesome music, beautiful fashions in a very comfortable setting. I hope Reno is ready to embrace this gem.
